Developing skills, building partnerships and celebrating working dogs.
Boonah Working Stock Dog Club Inc. (BWSDCI) is a welcoming community of working dog enthusiasts dedicated to developing the skills of both dogs and their handlers.
Our club encourages learning, sharing knowledge and building strong working partnerships between handlers and their dogs. Whether working towards competition goals or simply enjoying the challenge of stock work, we support handlers at every stage of their journey.
We are committed to promoting responsible stockmanship, animal welfare, good sportsmanship and respect for fellow handlers, while preserving and celebrating the valuable role of working dogs in the livestock industry.
Above all, BWSDCI is about bringing people together through a shared passion for working dogs, encouraging one another and enjoying the journey of learning and improving together.
BWSDCI was honored to support Blue Jay films in their short documentary about stock dogs. Our founding president, Errol Gill, proudly sharing how these dogs are far more than just dogs.
Our training days are held at the Boonah Showgrounds.
Please enter via the Melbourne Street entrance. We use the area shared with the Fassifern Pony Club.
Keep an eye out for BWSDCI signage when you arrive to help guide you to the training area.
We welcome dogs of all breeds and experience levels that have an interest in working livestock.
Whether you have a young dog just starting out, a dog with natural herding instincts, or an experienced working dog looking to improve its skills, our training days provide opportunities to learn and develop.
Your dog doesn't need to have worked livestock before! Beginners are welcome, and we encourage owners to come along and learn alongside their dogs.
For the safety and welfare of everyone involved, we ask that:
Dogs are manageable and under effective control.
All dogs are up to date with their vaccinations.
Puppies have received at least their second puppy vaccination before attending training days.
If you're unsure whether your dog would be suitable, please contact us. We're happy to discuss your dog's breed, age, temperament and experience.
While puppies can't participate in training until they've received their second vaccination, they can still benefit from coming along to watch.
Observing from a safe, controlled space, such as the back of an SUV or ute tray, or picnic rug, provides valuable exposure while reducing contact with potentially contaminated surfaces. Check with your vet before attending.
Socialisation doesn't mean interaction! Learning to calmly observe other dogs, people and livestock without needing to interact helps build confidence and neutrality, reducing the risk of overexcitement and reactivity.
It's also a great chance for you to see how training works and meet other club members.
Sometimes the best learning starts with watching!
No! You don't need to be an annual financial member to come along and train with us.
You can purchase a Day Membership for just $10 when you attend a training day.
If you're planning to attend regularly, becoming an Annual Member for $60 offers great value and additional benefits.
Annual membership includes access to members-only training opportunities, including seminars, workshops and other special events the club may organise.
BWSDCI aims to hold 1–2 training days per month, so if you plan to attend regularly, an annual membership could be a more economical option.
Whether you're just starting out or looking to train regularly, we'd love to see you and your dog at a training day!
